While Coke already had plans of creating a graphic novel over a year ago, they had engaged numerous partners to begin scripting a story for a set of characters that are now synonymous with the Fanta brand.   With a graphic novel created, they ran into a problem – “How do we make this available to the world?”   After searching their current partners and the web, they came across the TRON Legacy interactive graphic novel we produced with Disney a few years back. Being impressed by that work, they reached out to discuss an opportunity to push HTML 5 and their brand further than ever.   Through multiple months of planning, we worked with various partners to develop a strategy that would accomplish exactly what coke was looking for…an experience that is localizable, available via the web, and works on more devices than we even want to even mention.

Vectorform’s Role in Fanta Play:

  • Invented a HTML 5 framework for graphic novels that significantly reduces the costs in dealing with cross-browser incompatibilities that arise in large projects and applications.
  • The framework employs Canvas (an HTML 5 technology) to render all of the beautiful animations, transitions, interactive elements and meta games inside the experience.
  • Used advanced  localization features of the framework through the entire experience for language and graphics so that items that are different in local markets such as bottle shapes and labels can easily be changed.
