What did you want to be when you grew up?

In high school I used to animate cartoons with Flash – I even considered going to animation-focused school for college. Ultimately I went to the University of Washington and got an Interaction Design degree from the design program. Luckily for me, my flash skills ended up being a huge plus in design school for creating interactive prototypes. Also, motion in interface design has really taken off over the last few years so my high school hobby is definitely carrying over into what I do as a designer!

How do you spend your time outside work?

I love to try all of the local micro-brews and sour beers that can be found around town. I like spending time with my dog Boris. I also have interests in music, TV, comedy, technology, art, Seattle pro sports, and fantasy sports – so I might spend too much time inside.

What is your favorite Vectorform project (not under NDA)? Why?

It was really fun working on the Club Diamond Nation website. I am a big baseball fan (I won the Vectorform fantasy baseball league), so creating a website that features videos of Mike Trout, and Tom Glavin, was really cool. Also, the concept of creating a highlight portal for little leaguers is such a fun idea.

What’s your favorite part of working at Vectorform?

I love the work environment we have in the Seattle office. Things are very laid back, but also collaborative and fun. We also always seem to have some new cool technology floating around that we can tinker with.

What are some of your favorite sources of inspiration for your work?

I like to browse web portals for cutting edge design, as well as tech blogs to keep up-to-date on any new emerging technologies. The design team is really good about sending out any relevant or interesting links. I’d like to think my interests in art, psychology, animation, and pop culture carry over insights into my job as well.

If you had to work at another VF office, which would you choose? Why?

This is a tough choice. I was able to visit both the Royal Oak and the Brooklyn offices last year. The new office in Royal Oak is a beautiful space that was inspiring to be in. However, I don’t think you can beat the location of the Brooklyn office, and I love NYC.

What was your favorite piece of technology as a child?

Gameboy.

If you had to take a week off from the internet and all your devices, what would you do?

Honestly, I’d get super sad. Maybe I would hike, bike, and exercise more. Maybe I’d read more books too.
