Josh Parmenter
Engineering Director, Mobile
Joshua Parmenter has been developing software for Mac, Linux and iOS for over a decade. He began his work with software through the development of programming languages and signal processing techniques for musicians and composers. His work has been performed around the world, and as a composer and researcher in computer music he spent the past decade teaching experimental music, programming and computer music composition at the University of Washington.
Joshua’s passion for computers and programming came first from creating real-time systems that manipulate sound to interact with live performers. His focus is in the creation of sonic 3D spaces and in spectral modelling. With a strong focus on code efficiency and user interface standards, he came to Vectorform as an iOS developer in 2012. Since then he has begun to explore image processing, mobile network applications as well as connected emerging technologies such as wearables. He is currently the iOS technical lead in the Vectorform Seattle office, with experience on all major mobile platforms. He is fluent in Objective-C, Swift, Common LISP, C, C++ and Java, and has experience with C#, Python, SQL, HTML and PHP. He also is one of the primary developers of the SuperCollider programming language, contributing heavily to the sound synthesis engine (a plugin based C++ architecture with real-time constraints).
Joshua’s outlook on software development is heavily influenced by his past as an experimental sound artist. His work with major composers and performers around the world has given him a performer’s outlook, where the producer and audience must come together to create a truly successful experience for all involved.
